Wavefront announces the release of two new variants of its unique Solstice MAS Multi-Aperture Sonar. Adding to its 300m and 600m depth rated variants are new versions rated to 1500m and 3000m extending the use cases to a much larger range of subsurface platforms.
Solstice blends the high performance of Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) with the reliability and robustness of conventional Side-Scan Sonar (SSS) to ensure reliable high-resolution imagery. Consuming less than 20W of power and delivering a wide 200m swath with high speed data acquisition at up to 6 kts and co-registered bathymetry, Solstice is an ideal choice for low logistic AUVs where power draw is a critical factor in ensuring mission endurance.
Common applications for Solstice include Mine Counter Measure (MCM) operations, route survey, habitat monitoring, archaeological survey and fluid and gaseous leak detection. Onboard processing enables the implementation of near real time detection algorithms such as automatic leak detection and detection of mine-like objects.
Speaking about the release, Paul Badger, Managing Director at Wavefront Systems said ‘This is an exciting development allowing even more customers to experience the benefits of Multi-Aperture Sonar. When combined with options for delivery as a pre-configured AUV Payload Module we see Solstice as the natural choice for the latest generation of small, agile AUV platforms in both the defence and commercial sectors’.
